Co:Spinel (Cobalt-doped Magnesium Aluminate Spinel, Co:MgAl₂O₄) is an effective passive Q-switch crystal widely used for eye-safe and near-infrared laser systems. It provides strong saturable absorption around the 1.5–1.6 μm wavelength range and is commonly used with Er:glass, Er:YAG, and other erbium-based laser sources.

Compared with traditional passive Q-switch materials, Co:Spinel offers high optical damage threshold, good thermal and chemical stability, and reliable performance in compact laser designs. It is especially suitable for pulsed eye-safe laser applications, laser rangefinders, LIDAR systems, medical lasers, and scientific research systems.
