Cr⁴⁺:YAG (Chromium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) crystals are widely used as saturable absorbers for passive Q-switching in Nd:YAG and other 1.06 µm solid-state laser systems.
By modulating intracavity losses automatically, Cr⁴⁺:YAG enables short, high-peak-power pulses without external electro-optic components.
