Ho:YAG (Holmium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) crystal is a solid-state laser gain medium widely used for mid-infrared laser systems, operating primarily at ~2.09–2.12 μm. Due to its strong absorption in water and biological tissue, Ho:YAG lasers are extensively applied in medical surgery, lithotripsy, urology, and minimally invasive procedures, as well as in LIDAR, materials processing, and scientific research.

Ho:YAG crystals are typically Tm:YAG laser pumped (around 1.9 μm), enabling efficient energy transfer and stable laser operation. Compared with other mid-IR laser crystals, Ho:YAG offers high slope efficiency, good thermal stability, and reliable long-term performance, making it suitable for both pulsed and continuous-wave (CW) laser designs.

Our Ho:YAG crystals are grown with strict control of dopant concentration, crystal orientation, and optical quality. Precision polishing and optional AR coatings ensure excellent beam quality and compatibility with medical-grade and industrial laser systems. Custom dimensions and specifications are available for OEM and research applications.

Frequently Asked Questions — Ho:YAG Laser Crystals

Ho:YAG (Holmium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) is a solid-state laser crystal that emits at approximately 2.1 μm in the mid-infrared. It is widely used in medical, industrial, and scientific laser systems due to its strong absorption in water and biological tissue.
Ho:YAG lasers are most commonly used in medical applications such as urology, lithotripsy, and soft-tissue surgery. They are also applied in LIDAR, materials processing, and defense-related laser systems.
The 2.1 μm emission wavelength strongly overlaps with the absorption peak of water, enabling precise tissue ablation with shallow penetration depth and minimal thermal damage to surrounding tissue.
Ho:YAG crystals are typically pumped by Tm-doped fiber lasers or Tm:YAG lasers around 1.9 μm, providing efficient energy transfer and stable laser operation.
Yes. We provide Ho:YAG crystals in custom dimensions, doping concentrations, crystal orientations, and optional AR coatings at pump and laser wavelengths. OEM and research-grade customization is fully supported.
