Yb:KGW (Ytterbium-doped Potassium Gadolinium Tungstate) Single Crystals

Yb:KGW (Yb³⁺:KGd(WO₄)₂) is a high-performance ytterbium-doped laser crystal widely used in ultrafast, high-power, and high-efficiency solid-state laser systems. It offers a broad emission bandwidth, high absorption cross-section, and excellent thermal properties, making it an ideal gain medium for femtosecond and picosecond lasers.

Compared with Yb:YAG, Yb:KGW provides broader gain bandwidth, enabling shorter pulse generation and superior wavelength tunability. Its strong absorption near ~980 nm diode pumping allows efficient direct diode pumping with reduced thermal load.

Yb:KGW crystals are extensively used in ultrafast oscillators, regenerative amplifiers, chirped-pulse amplification (CPA) systems, and advanced scientific laser platforms. Precision crystal growth and optical-grade polishing ensure low scattering loss and stable laser performance.

We supply high-quality Yb:KGW single crystals with controlled doping concentration, crystallographic orientation, and optional AR coatings to support both research laboratories and OEM laser manufacturers.

Frequently Asked Questions — Yb:KGW Laser Crystals

Yb:KGW (Ytterbium-doped Potassium Gadolinium Tungstate) is a diode-pumped laser crystal known for its broad emission bandwidth, high gain, and excellent performance in ultrafast and femtosecond laser systems.
Yb:KGW offers a very broad emission spectrum, enabling generation of ultra-short pulses (<200 fs). Its high emission cross-section and efficient diode pumping make it ideal for CPA and mode-locked lasers.
Compared with Yb:YAG, Yb:KGW has a broader gain bandwidth and is better suited for ultrafast lasers, while Yb:YAG excels in high-power, narrow-bandwidth continuous-wave applications.
Yb:KGW crystals are typically diode-pumped around 940–981 nm, depending on crystal orientation and laser design.
Yes. We provide custom Yb:KGW crystals with specified dimensions, crystallographic orientations, and optional AR coatings for pump and laser wavelengths.
