LSO (Lutetium Oxyorthosilicate, Lu₂SiO₅) is a high-performance inorganic scintillator crystal widely used in PET imaging, gamma-ray detection, nuclear physics, and high-energy radiation measurement. LSO combines high density, fast decay time, and strong stopping power, making it ideal for compact detectors and time-critical applications.

Compared with traditional scintillators, LSO offers excellent light output stability, short decay time, and high effective atomic number, enabling precise timing resolution and efficient detection of high-energy photons. Our LSO crystals are grown using controlled crystal growth techniques and are available with optical-grade polishing for detector integration.

Frequently Asked Questions — LSO Scintillator Crystal

What is an LSO scintillator crystal?
LSO (Lutetium Oxyorthosilicate, Lu₂SiO₅:Ce) is a high-density inorganic scintillator crystal used for fast gamma-ray and radiation detection, especially in PET imaging systems.
What are the main advantages of LSO?
LSO offers high density, strong gamma-ray stopping power, fast decay time, good light output, and excellent timing performance, making it ideal for high count-rate detection.
What is the typical application of LSO crystals?
LSO crystals are widely used in PET scanners, nuclear medicine imaging, gamma-ray spectroscopy, high-energy physics, and radiation monitoring systems.
How does LSO compare with BGO or NaI(Tl)?
Compared to BGO, LSO provides much faster decay time and better timing resolution. Compared to NaI(Tl), LSO offers higher density, is non-hygroscopic, and is better suited for compact, high-performance detectors.
Is LSO hygroscopic?
No. LSO is non-hygroscopic, making it easier to handle and more stable for long-term operation than NaI-based scintillators.
Do you offer custom sizes and detector-ready processing?
Yes. LSO crystals are available in custom dimensions, pixel arrays, and detector-ready formats with optical polishing, reflector coating, and surface treatments upon request.
